Frequently Asked Questions

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an important part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which has a 5000 years old tradition. It works through the insertion of needles into specific points (called acupoints), which clear the energy pathways (called meridians), and promote energy (Qi) to flow more smoothly and efficiently.
The needles stimulate and strengthen the body's natural healing abilities, improve blood circulation, balance and improve organ functions.

Is Acupuncture safe?
Acupuncture is a safe procedure when conducted by trained and skilled acupuncture practitioner. Furthermore, we use only sterile, vacuum-sealed, single-use needles, which prevents any risk of infection and cross-contamination.

What kind of needles do you use?
We use high quality, stainless steel, sterile needles. We only use once, then dispose them through a waste management company.

How many treatments do I need?
It varies with the underlying health condition and the physical condition of the patient. A few treatments may be enough for some health issues, while more treatments may need for more complicated and persistent problems. It will depend on your situation, but the practitioner will adjust the treatment plan depending on the patient responses to optimize the results.

Why might you choose acupuncture?
Acupuncture can provide an alternative to some people. Conventional medicine is often sufficient to provide satisfactory results. For example, it is great for emergency situations and diagnoses. You can get clear pictures from CT scan and MRI, see all the numbers from your blood work. Surgeries have saved so many lives. Conventional medicine is better connected with modern science and technology. It’s a great medicine but not perfect. There are still situations where conventional medicine cannot produce satisfactory results. Or patients may not wish take drugs all the time for some medical conditions.

This is why some patients choose acupuncture. When they do not get much help from their doctors and want an alternative choice. Acupuncture is excellent in treating many chronic diseases and some acute conditions. Acupuncture treats root causes, not merely masking the symptoms. Acupuncture can improve your health conditions.

My recommendation:

For some health conditions, patients choose to get acupuncture treatment first while waiting for surgery. Some may get good result from acupuncture treatments like: knee pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, low back pain, sciatica, foot pain, hand pain, trigger finger and etc.

What separates different acupuncturists?
Acupuncturists differ in their skill levels much like artists. Good practitioners must have good educations. Some of them went to medical schools. They had been trained as medical doctors. They know well about both Chinese medicine and conventional medicine.

The idea older and wiser certainly applies to acupuncturists. A good acupuncturist must have more knowledge, experience, and skills. They can make accurate diagnoses, develop good treatment plans according to your individual situations and make adjustments based on your responses to treatments. They have more skills and know more effective acupoints to give you more effective treatments.

Good acupuncturists can treat more health issues with better results.
